Several years ago, I read Tom Bissell's insightful and entertaining 'Chasing the Sea.' As I read about the shrunken and toxic inland sea, I was amazed at the neglect and failure of Uzbekistan and Kazakstan to save this resource that provided sustenance to ecosystems, industry, and recreation.The complexities differ--but now in the US --we have our own shrinking inland sea.
